Lucky Stars! 90+ Point Wines

Aren’t we lucky – we’ve been honoured by wine critics across Canada with numerous 90+ scores this winter.  Pick up a bottle or two to enjoy with friends this St. Patrick’s Day. It’s magically delicious! (And much preferable to drinking green beer)…

    • Cabernet Franc 2013 – 92 points | John Schreiner, November 2015: “The grapes for this are from the Rock Pocket Vineyard, also near Oliver. The wine begins with almost perfumed aromas of blackberry and black cherry. On the palate, there are flavours of spicy cherry with hints of cigar box on the finish. The tannins are firm. The wine needs to be decanted for immediate consumption but it will develop spectacularly in bottle over the next five or six years.”
    • Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – 90 points | Globe & Mail, Beppi Crosariol, March 2016: “Full-bodied, juicy and spicy, this is well-rounded cabernet, with a small proportion of merlot for added softness in the mid-palate. Generously oaked, it’s redolent of cassis, smoky cedar and dark cherry.”
    • Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – 92 points | John Schreiner, November 2015: “The grapes for this are from the Blue Terrace Vineyard at Oliver, a long-time grower for Township 7. This wine has 15% Merlot in the blend to enrich the texture and mid-palate. The wine begins with aromas of black cherry and vanilla mingled with spice and cassis. On the palate, there are flavours of black cherry, vanilla, tobacco and chocolate, with a spine of minerality. The long ripe tannins give the wine a polished texture. It is drinking well now but the patient consumer who cellars this for another five years will be well rewarded.”
    • Gewürztraminer 2014 – 90 points | Daenna Van Mulligen, March 2016: “Tangy, floral, fresh. From Township 7’s Naramata Estate Vineyard this tangy Gewurztraminer offers citrus oil, honey, yellow apples, pears, spice and orange blossom notes. The palate is very fresh, the acidity bright. It has a slightly oily or soapy texture balanced with a mouthwatering finish.”
    • Gewürztraminer 2014 – 90 points | John Schreiner, February 2016: “The wine begins with aromas of ginger, orange peel and lychee. It presents intensely on the palate, with flavours of citrus. The finish is dry, punctuated emphatically with spice.”
    • Merlot 2013 – 4.5 stars & 91 points | Vines Magazine, Daenna Van Mulligen, Spring 2016 & WineScores.ca, December 2015: “Supple, concentrated, plush. Expect chocolate, cherries, espresso, plums, baking spices and vanilla on the nose. The palate is an echo of the nose with a supple weight, smooth tannins and plush fruit layered with chocolate, vanilla and spice. A modern and approachable style with appealing concentration of fruit nicely spiced with oak.”
    • Merlot 2013 – 90 points | John Schreiner, November 2015: “The wine begins with aromas of plum, black cherry and vanilla. On the palate, there are flavours of black currant, tobacco and chocolate. Full in texture thanks to the 15% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, the wine has long ripe tannins, with a lingering finish of Christmas spices.”
    • Merlot 2013 – 90 points | Rick VanSickle, November 2015: “An attractive, inviting nose of black cherry, kirsch, cassis, raspberry, cigar box cedar and spice. The rich, red fruits are bolstered by earthy/tobacco notes on the palate with dusty tannins, licorice and spice. Already well-balanced but worthy of more age in the cellar.”
    • NBO 2013 – 92 points | John Schreiner, February 2016: “NBO is short for North Bench Oliver, the location of Blue Terrace Vineyard, one of Township 7’s long term suppliers. This wine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. It was aged 24 months in American oak. The bouquet of cherry, black currant and mocha is echoed in the flavours of this richly textured wine. The oak gives a hint of vanilla to the lingering finish. The wine benefits from decanting.”
    • Reserve Chardonnay 2014 – 90 points | John Schreiner, February 2016: “A wine club exclusive.  Grapes from two Black Sage Road vineyards went into this delicious barrel-fermented wine. The wine begins with aromas of citrus fruits, apple and vanilla. On the palate, there are flavours of citrus, apricot and vanilla. The wine has good weight and a lingering finish.”
    • Reserve Chardonnay 2014 – 90 points | Rick VanSickle, February 2016: “The fruit comes from the famed Sundial Vineyard on the Black Sage Road and blended with another Black Sage Bench property. It has a pretty nose of green apple, pineapple, lemon and subtle integrated spice. It has a creamy feel on the palate, with a mélange of orchard fruit, apricot and citrus with a range of barrel spices. Good acidity gives this delicious Chard lift on the finish.”
    • Reserve 7 2013 – 92 points | John Schreiner, November 2015: “This blend is 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and one percent each Malbec and Petit Verdot. This wine begins with aromas of black cherry cassis and vanilla; the later reflects the 24 months of aging on French and American oak barrels. The wine is harmonious and full on the palate, with flavours of cassis, chocolate, tobacco and cedar. The ripe tannins allow for drinking this now, with decanting, but the wise choice would be to cellar the wine for five more years and let it blossom in the bottle.”
    • Reserve 7 2013 – 92 points | Rick VanSickle, November 2015: “A five-varietal red blend of most Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with an attractive nose of concentrated cherry, black currants and blackberry followed by barrel spice notes, earth, and dried tobacco. The fruit is mouth-filling with a mélange of dark fruits with licorice, tar, earth and loaded with elegant oak spice. This is a complex, concentrated and structured red with a long life ahead in the cellar.”
    • Seven Stars Sparkling 2012  – 90 points | John Schreiner, February 2016: “This wine was 18 months on the lees to develop a slight biscuity hint on the nose. On the palate, the wine is refreshing with apple flavours. The active bubbles give the wine a creamy texture while the dry finish gives it a crisp ending.”

We’ve also been honoured to receive outstanding reviews from many other great palates, who do not use the 100 point rating scale. A shout out to wine critics:  Tom Firth with Avenue MagazineEat North and Culinaire Magazine, Julianna Hayes with Okanagan Sunday, and Eric Degerman with Great Northwest Wine Magazine. Cheers!
