In the mood for an afternoon outing to wine country? Start at Township 7 Vineyard and Winery. These are highly impressive small-lot, handcrafted wines that will blow you away with their complexity and full-bodied lusciousness. If lucky, you’ll visit during one of the winery’s many summer jazz, theatre and art festivals. But even on a regular day, the self-guided vineyard tour packs plenty of ambience and information. Pick up a bottle of Seven Stars Sparkling (exclusive to the tasting shop) or an acclaimed 2009 merlot, custom paired with a bar of Himalayan-salt and Szechuan-pepper artisanal dark chocolate from Vancouver’s Xoxolat.

Mike Raffan interviewed on the issue of inter-provincial wine shipping in Canada and the delay of Bill C-311. “Wine lovers, including those in the Okanagan, can breathe a sigh of relief, there is still hope a private members bill concerning the shipment of wine across provincial borders could get passed before the summer recess…”

Maybe you want to take Mom out for a Sunday drive through the countryside? If she enjoys wine, take her to south Langley’s Township 7 Winery to enjoy wine alfresco at their Mother’s Day picnic lunch. You can build your own picnic from over 20 items, buy hanging baskets (yes, they’re having a plant sale), and definitely bring the kids along as there will be crafts for them to make. Oh, and get this – there will be a live band performing called “We Play For Wine” – gotta love that! It’s happening rain or shine.

“We were thrilled when we saw… that our 2007 Township 7 Chardonnay was chosen to be served to the Queen during her recent visit to Canada,” Raffan said. “Considering that the official federal dinner was held in Ontario, and that there are hundreds of Canadian wineries to choose from, our selection was a true honour.”

“After meeting Robb I was inspired by his positive attitude and incredible ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to achieve so much,” Raffan said, explaining how Township 7 produces handcrafted wines in small lots from vineyards in the Okanagan and Fraser Valley. “His artwork is reflective of the passion we put into making the best wines we can, and this project is for a great local cause that we are truly proud to support,” added Raffan. The Dunfield Collection is a premium bordeaux-style blend comprised of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet Franc crafted from grapes grown on the renowned Black Sage Road in Oliver.”
