Unoaked Chardonnay 2009

Tasting Notes:

Primarily sourced from vineyards in the Oliver area, this Chardonnay went through tank fermentation, using three select yeasts and cool fermentation to enhance and develop complex fruit expressions. This fresh, unoaked style exhibits the true character of the grape with hints of melon, pie spice and citrus on the nose. The palate reveals Granny Smith apple, mineral notes and strawberry. A medium finish, with crabapple and cream. Explore dishes with figs, fruit- touched cheeses, Dungeness crab and roast chicken.

Vintage Report

A challenging winter reduced the crop, but the remaining fruit excelled during the long, dry growing season. September’s picture perfect weather with 20 days of 20° Celsius temperatures propelled our Chardonnay harvest to produce ripe, wonderfully developed fruit. Sourced from three vineyards in Oliver and Naramata over several weeks, contributed to a complexity of flavour profiles and aromas.

2009 Unoaked Chardonnay

Daenna Van Mulligen | Wine Diva, July 8, 2011

A fresh and aromatic Chardonnay that allows the fruit to shine through. Expect plenty of bright melon and pear aromas, honey and exotic citrus with hints of spring blossoms. The palate focus is on sweet ripe fruit -creamy tropical and orchard fruits, lively citrus and hints of warm spice. Nicely weighted and pleasingly refreshing. Recommended pairings: Dungeness crab, roast chicken or fresh summer corn-on-the-cob.

B.C. is on the right track to creating world-class Chardonnays. This week we look at six local Chardonnays headed in the right direction that frankly, when tasted blind, would do well anywhere in the world. Township 7 is making a flavourful un-oaked Chardonnay. The un-oaked moniker prepares you for a dry, fresh, fruity white with green apple, mineral, citrus and green peach flavours. The finish hints of mineral, creamy lees and finesse.”

Aromas of apples, peaches and chalky minerals and super-crisp flavours of lemon, licorice and sweet spices. The texture has a soft oily roundness while maintaining its zippy acidity. Shellfish and fresh spring vegetables would pair nicely.

Orange blossom, tropical fruit, marmalade, spice in the nose and on the palate. It features crisp acidity along with its lusciousness. A delight to drink.

Township 7 produces lean, palate tingling wines from Okanagan fruit. Its unoaked Chardonnay has wonderfully intense fruit thanks to the ripening opportunities that the valley’s long summer days provide.

More than a pleasant sipper, this enjoys a fresh, not overtly fruity style with melon and citrus aromas, apple and background mineral notes on the palate. A great match for simply prepared seafood.
