A classic Bordeaux style blend, this vintage is almost evenly comprised of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with essential supporting roles rounding out the palate of Cabernet Franc and a Malbec / Petite Verdot field blend. Sourcing from four different vineyards in the South Okanagan and Naramata Bench contributes to the complexity with a layering of robust flavours. This vintage will be an interesting counterpoint to hot years, which at release, shows great red berry presence and aromatics of cherry, vanilla, fall leaves and warm savoury spice. An excellent match with roasted lamb, grilled ribeye, and strong cheeses. Cellar through 2018 and beyond.
This year necessitated everything a quintessential Okanagan autumn can bring and we were rewarded for our patience. Picking began the last week of October and finished on the 8th of November. The long “hang-time” enabled full flavour development in the fruit, with an average sized crop of superb quality. Add in a supporting cast of six yeast selections and a spice rack of French oak barrels aged for 24 months, makes this a fabulous wine for enjoying with your favourite full flavoured dishes.
A mild winter was followed by a slow start to the growing season for the 2011 vintage, with a cool late spring. Mother nature fortunately came through with a long, warm summer followed by an above average September of dry, warm days. October opened with some precipitation events, but quickly moderated and dried to allow our reds to be harvested late, but in excellent condition. Our big reds benefited from the long ripening season and produced bold flavours from the outset.
