Named in honour of our winemaker’s dog, The Black Dog, is a ‘bottom up’ blend, made in the moment, on the crushpad, as the juice comes out of the press. Traditionally for this wine, the grape volumes reflect the vintage, with no “recipe” followed. It is blended and barreled in the best barrels available and aged for more than 30 months in French and American oak before being bottled. Cherry, crushed autumn leaves, nutshell and black currant preserves inhabit the aroma. Licorice, cassis, baked plum and blackberry notes are found on the palate. We suggest decanting. Enjoy with fine cheeses, roasted game and in the company of man’s best friend with only the most select company! Unfiltered.
The 2009 season was one of the best of the decade for viticulture in British Columbia. A challenging winter reduced the crop, but the remaining grapes excelled during the long, dry growing
season. September’s picture perfect weather with 20 days of 20° Celsius temperatures enabled a smooth early harvest of full, round clusters of balanced ripe fruit.
