A full-bodied, single vineyard wine that is so rich it is almost thick, this inaugural Reserve Cabernet
Sauvignon is as substantive as it is beautiful. This vintage is full of aromas of black currant, dark cherry and
cocoa, tempered with tobacco and graphite. The stony soils of the Vanessa Vineyard add layers of
complexity and minerality on the palate. Extended barrel aging in French barriques and one new
puncheon developed lovely spice and vanilla characters. A robust red with great structure and flavours,
enjoy with grilled bison and roasted vegetables. Unfiltered, the wine is best decanted and aged for 5-15
This premium wine was crafted from the Cabernet Sauvignon grown at Vanessa Vineyard in the southwest
of the southern Similkameen Valley. Planted over a decade ago, the vines grow in rows of rocks with ideal
sunlight exposure from the nicely sloping blocks, which enable the grapes to bask in sunlight from dawn
to dusk. Their rich, gravel and rock strewn soils provide a foundation for great concentration in the fruit and
deliver superior grape quality. After harvest, the fruit was gently managed through an 18 day open vat
fermentation with varied cap management to promote rich fruit and tannin extraction. The wine was then
aged in 6 French barrels (33% new) for 24 months contributing softness to the enticingly rich mouthfeel.
The 2014 growing season was fantastic in the Okanagan valley. An early start in the spring and timely
precipitation through June provided the necessities for vigorous vine growth. July and August were very
sunny and hot leading to good sugar development within the grapes and earlier than normal ripening.
September was also warm and sunny with cool nights allowing for continued ripening. October was cooler
with some precipitation that allowed for extended hang time to ensure phenolic ripeness particularly in
the later ripening red varieties.
