Crafted in the inviting Pomerol style, this single vineyard Merlot is full-bodied with black cherry,
currant and ripe plum. This is enhanced with fragrant aromas of slate, cocoa and vanilla. There is
richness on the palate that displays the ripeness of the fruit from the 2014 vintage. Serve decanted
and enjoy for 5-10 years. Try this premium red with roasted duck and a blackcurrant and cassis sauce
or honey-barbecued chicken.
This vintage was made solely with Merlot from the Blue Terrace Vineyard in north Oliver, where the
rich, gravel-strewn soils provide a foundation for superior grape quality. Twelve of the best Merlot
barrels were selected for this blend to create a rich and luscious wine. The 14 day fermentation that
was hand plunged 3 times a day enables rich fruit extraction and satisfying tannins. Extended barrel
aging in French and American barrels of which 30% were new for 24 months, adds butterscotch and
supple tannins for balance and a fine-tuned structure.
A vintage to celebrate, the 2014 growing season in the Okanagan Valley was fantastic. An early spring
start and timely precipitation through June provided the necessities for good vine growth. July and
August were very sunny and hot leading to excellent sugar development within the grapes and earlier
than normal ripening. September was also warm and sunny with cool nights allowing for continued
ripening. October was cooler with some precipitation that permitted extended “hang time” to ensure
proper phenolic ripeness without excessive brix levels.
