This vintage of Black Dog is full of aromas of rich ripe currants, black plums, dark chocolate, pepper, anise, sage, leather and tobacco. The palate follows through with ripe dark fruits and robust tannins. Pair with your favourite roast meat and roasted vegetables.
This wine was crafted through individual barrel selection. Eleven barrels and 1 puncheon were chosen from over 400 barrels, of which 8 were new, to ensure that our Black Dog remains our premium wine selection. Through this selection we determined that a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot gave us our finest combination balancing fruit, aromatics, tannins and mouthfeel.
The 2015 season in the Okanagan Valley can be summed up in one word — fantastic. An early spring start provided the necessities for superior vine growth. July and August were very sunny and hot leading to good sugar development within the grapes and much earlier ripening than normal. We began our earliest harvest on record, on August 22, and by the end of September completed the bulk of our grape picking. September was similarly, warm and sunny with slightly cooler nights allowing for continued phenolic ripening. A harvest for the record books, was finished at our earliest date ever, October 8.
