This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc has aromas of black currant, vanilla, cedar, sage and flint. The palate displays rich black currant up front and finishes with caramel and firm tannins. Decant before serving to release aromatics and soften palate. Serve with grilled rib eye and mushroom risotto.
Produced predominantly from one of our favourite vineyard sites, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot perfectly displays the terroir of the Blue Terrace and Rock Pocket vineyards. Its stony soils retain heat throughout the cool September and October evenings allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon to thoroughly ripen. The Merlot adds subtlety and softness to the structure and strength of the Cabernets. This full-bodied wine was fermented over 9 days with pump overs 2 times a day. Extended maceration also allowed full extraction of tannin, adding weight to the wine.
The 2015 season in the Okanagan Valley can be summed up in one word — fantastic. An early spring start provided the necessities for superior vine growth. July and August were very sunny and hot leading to good sugar development within the grapes and much earlier ripening than normal. We began our earliest harvest on record, on August 22, and by the end of September completed the bulk of our grape picking. September was similarly, warm and sunny with slightly cooler nights allowing for continued phenolic ripening. A harvest for the record books, was finished at our earliest date ever, October 8.
