This single vineyard Merlot is full bodied with black cherry, currant and ripe plum. This is enhanced with aromas of slate, bergamot, cocoa and vanilla. There is richness on the palate that displays the ripeness of the fruit from the 2015 vintage. Serve decanted and enjoy for 5-10 years. Serve with roasted duck.
This wine was crafted solely with Merlot from the Blue Terrace Vineyard in north Oliver, where the rich, gravel-strewn soils provide a foundation for superior grape quality. Five of the best Merlot barrels were selected for this blend to create a rich and luscious Merlot. The 14-day fermentation that was hand plunged 3 times a day enables rich fruit extraction and satisfying tannins. Aged in French and American barrels of which 20% were new for 24 months adds butterscotch and supple tannins for balance.
The 2015 season in the Okanagan Valley can be summed up in one word — fantastic. An early spring start provided the necessities for superior vine growth. July and August were very sunny and hot leading to good sugar development within the grapes and much earlier ripening than normal. We began our earliest harvest on record, on August 22, and by the end of September completed the bulk of our grape picking. September was similarly, warm and sunny with slightly cooler nights allowing for continued phenolic ripening. A harvest for the record books, was finished at our earliest date ever, October 8.
