A beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc blend, this NBO (North Bench Oliver) vintage has intense aromas of black currant, cedar, sage and flint. The generous palate displays juicy black currant along with rich caramel and firm, dry tannins. Stylish yet bold, decant before serving to release aromatics and soften palate, as the wine is unfiltered. Share with loved one and serve with grilled rib eye and goat cheese potato mash.
Produced from one of our favourite vineyard sites, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc perfectly displays the terroir of the Blue Terrace and neighboring Rock Pocket Vineyards. Its stony soils retain heat throughout the cool September and October evenings allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon to thoroughly ripen. The Merlot adds subtlety and softness to the structure and strength of the Cabernets. This full-bodied wine was fermented over 13 days with pump overs 2 times a day. Extended maceration also allowed full extraction of tannin, adding weight to the wine.
The 2016 growing season was one of the longest in the Okanagan, with Spring commencing very quickly in the Valley. One of our earliest starts ever, had flowering 2 weeks ahead of normal and fruit set remaining on track. Many expected another record early harvest, however Mother Nature fortunately intervened. July & August were cooler than normal with more precipitation than usual slowing the ripening process slightly and the rain contributing to good vine growth. Mixed conditions in Autumn saw a fantastic warm & sunny September with only intermittent rain, affording us good weather for harvest. October brought some additional rain and frost incidents in the south of the Valley at mid-month. We began harvest with Chardonnay for sparkling wine August 23 and brought in our last grapes November 3. It was quite an extended harvest with a 10 day break between harvesting reds and whites. Overall, we picked some white grapes earlier than usual, but the reds stayed on average pick dates. Growing Degree Days in both Penticton & Langley totalled 1326 and 973 respectively, above their 23-day average of 1216 and 863. Overall, the season provided us flavorful fruit with balanced ripeness and nice phenolic development. A usual, but great harvest in our books!
