We create a small batch of Reserve Chardonnay that is a quintessential mouthwatering, big, full and lush wine with just the right amount of acidity for balance and elegance. A creamy, vanilla, caramel and fig nose with background notes of nutmeg and citrus. Flavours of peach, apricot, apple, nuanced pastry and Mandarin orange. The long, sultry finish exhibits a hint of smoke. Rich and assertive, this wine is a lovely accompaniment to Atlantic lobster, wild Pacific salmon, or Dungeness crab.
The renowned Sundial Vineyard on the Black Sage Road in Oliver and our own estate vineyard on the Naramata Bench provided unique influences in this blend. The Sundial fruit delivers ripe, decadent flavours while our Naramata Bench component brings crisp acidity and apple/pear notes. Three French oak barrels (average age of one year) were identified for their exceptional characteristics and stirred weekly over the first eight months of aging. Aged almost 14 months with 80% malolactic fermentation contributes that full mouthfeel of this classic Chardonnay.
An overall textbook Okanagan growing season that was of particular benefit to Chardonnay. An uninterrupted stream of sunny days and crisp nights right through September allowed our Chardonnay to reach ideal harvest conditions just slightly on the early side. Picking commenced October 9 and completed the next day.
